Commuter Mentor Program

This program connects first-year and transfer commuter students with upperclassmen commuter students who serve as Commuter Mentors.

A Commuter Mentor is a go-to person for navigating campus, getting involved, and actually feeling connected—without having to figure it all out alone. It is designed specifically for students who commute, this program helps students stay connected—even if they are only on campus between classes.

Commuter Mentor Description

Incoming Students:

How do I sign-up?

You already are! All new first-year and transfer commuter students are matched with a mentor before the semester begins, so you already have a connection when you arrive. You will receive a letter with more information sent to your home address from Student Life and Success, and an email from your Commuter Mentor prior to the first week of classes. We hope you decide to participate!

Last year over 75% of students interacted with the mentor through Check-In Day, email exchanges, and/or individual meeting!

What to Expect:

  • 1:1 connection with someone who has gone this this same experience

  • Weekly check-ins (text/email)

  • Optional meetups (coffee, lunch, events)

  • Help navigating classes, campus, and finding your voice on campus

  • A person on campus that you've already met before the first day of class

If there are any questions about the Commuter Mentor program please contact Al Thiel, Director of Student Involvement.
