Welcome Week
Summer Orientation and Academic Registration (SOAR) is only one phase of
orientation at Pitt-Greensburg. The second phase is known as Welcome Week. New
residents will move-in their belongings while new commuter students check-in
and pick up their ID cards, student handbooks, and other information pertaining
to Welcome Week. First-Year Student Convocation takes place that evening on
Thursday, August 27, 2009.
Although the entire schedule for Welcome Week 2009 has not been set yet, here
are a few things to be aware of:
-
Welcome Week is considered a mandatory activity, so please plan on being here
(it's also FUN!).
-
There is a $50 fee for Welcome Week, so be sure to get your money's worth! This
fee is applied directly to your tuition bill for fall.
-
Thursday, August 27th will be First-Year Student Convocation, which is a formal
welcome into the University community. This event is held in the evening; dress
is casual, and your family will be invited.
-
There are tons of fun and informative things to do on Friday, August 28th! This
is also a time to get your books, get your parking permit, check out where all
your classes are, etc.
-
There are great day trips scheduled on Saturday August 29th.
Traditionally, we have gone to a Pirates game, Kennywood, Idlewild Park &
Soak Zone, the Renaissance Festival, the Carnegie Science Center/Sports Works,
and other fun places. These trips are free and are available on a first-come,
first-served basis. Information regarding signing up for these trips will be
available later in the summer.
-
The Big Bang is a tradition at Pitt-Greensburg on the Sunday prior to classes
(30th). Upperclassmen will join you in enjoying a great BBQ, inflatable games,
music, and a spectacular fireworks display. Come and have some fun!
-
A complete Welcome Week schedule will be sent to you in early August.
