Interdisciplinary Arts is a contemporary academic field that approaches the visual and performing arts as
a cohesive body of study. Its purpose is to explore the interconnectedness of art history, music and
theatre arts through a comparative examination of their themes, conventions and aesthetic developments.
In addition, the Interdisciplinary Arts major promotes understanding of the role of the arts in history and
society and appreciation for human artistic expression.
Core Courses 6 courses – 18 credits
HA&A 0010 Introduction to Art
HA&A 1010 Approaches to Art History (HA&A 0010 is a prerequisite
for this course)
MUSIC 0211 Introduction to Western Art Music
MUSIC 0411 Introduction to Music Theory
THEA 0104 Basic Acting
THEA 0805 or 0806 Introduction to Theatre
Electives 5 courses – 15 credits
Students take three additional courses from one of the three arts departments (i.e., History of Arts and
Architecture, Music or Theatre) and one additional course in each of the remaining two departments.
Additional Requirements 1 course – 3 credits
After earning 90 credits, all Interdisciplinary Arts majors must take HA&A 1955, MUSIC 155 or THEA
1955 to fulfill the capstone class requirement.
Students must earn a minimum grade of C in all courses used to fulfill requirements for the major.
