St. Clair Lecture

St. Clair Lecture

featuring

Dr. Anne Mosher
Professor of Geography
Syracuse University
Author of Capital's Utopia

"Westmoreland's Downtown Heritage,
From the Gilded Age to the Disney Era"

Ferguson Theater
Wednesday, October 10, 2007
7:30 PM

Open to the public without charge

Dr. Anne Mosher will discuss the historical and geographical development of Westmoreland County's central business districts, including Greensburg, Derry, Latrobe, Ligonier, Mount Pleasant, Scottdale, Irwin, New Kensington, Jeannette, and Vandergrift.  Through historical maps, bird's-eye-view city plans, and highlights taken from city directories, local newspapers, and the U.S. census, she will show how (and explain why) the architecture and street plans found in Gilded Age Westmoreland County downtowns are now echoed in Disney's Main Street USA, a landscape that has become the national icon for small town downtowns everywhere.
