Advising Guidelines
To ensure that the advisor and advisee make the best use of the 30 minutes
allotted, the Academic Advising Department is requiring that all students come
prepared for their appointment by following these simple steps:
Log in to my.pitt.edu to view your academic advisement report. The report
includes the courses you have taken and degree requirements you have met.
Consult your Distribution of Credits (DOC) Sheet. If you do not have one, A
copy of your distribution of credits sheet can be obtained by coming to the
Office of Academic Affairs in Lynch Hall anytime Monday through Friday from
8:30-5.
Refer to the course schedule and UPG Bulletin. Students should select courses
for the term and prepare a written list or fill out a registration form to be
given to the advisor at the beginning of their appointment.
Check course availability. Computers are available in McKenna Hall and outside
the Registrar's Office, Millstein Library. Students can also check course
availability by going the the course information section of this web page.
Students should check the availability of selected courses prior to their
advising appointment. If a course is closed, students should choose an
alternate course before the scheduled advising appointment.
BE ON TIME. Advising/registration appointments are limited to 30 minutes and
another student will be scheduled immediately after you. If you are unable to
keep your appointment, PLEASE CALL 724-836-9940 to cancel and reschedule.
Remember, you have agreed to be a proactive participant in the advising process
and will consult your distribution of studies sheet, refer to the schedule of
classes and course descriptions, check course availability and be on time for
your advising/registration appointment.
