Baseball splits dh at Grove City
GROVE CITY - Pitt Greensburg mounted a five run second inning and held on to defeat Grove City, 7-4 in the first game of their doubleheader Wednesday, only to see the Wolverines prevail in extra innings in the nightcap, 10-9.  The Bobcats (16-17) began the opener with a Shane Molyneaux (Jr, North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) double to right center.  One out later, Chad Hoffner's (Jr, Pitcairn, PA/Gateway) infield single brought Molyneuax home from third.  The Wolverines (15-14) pushed across two in their first at bat, without the benefit of a base hit.  Greensburg starter Buddy Skeels (Jr, Munhall, PA/Central Catholic) issued four walks in the inning.  One of the runners was thrown out stealing by catcher Hoffner.  Bryan Pierrot hit a sacrifice fly to center with the bases loaded to tie the game.  Grove City went ahead, 2-1, when Brian Moran scored on a wild pitch.  Pitt Greensburg answered in the second, when Mike Battocchi (Jr, Pittsburgh, PA/Central Catholic) started the inning with a double to left.  Vince Edwards (So, Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) lined a single to center, bringing home Battocchi and tying the game.  After Molyneaux drew a walk and shortstop Andrew Gess (Jr, Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity) singled to right to load the bases, Hoffner's sacrifice fly to center made it 3-2, Bobcats.  Mark Lombardi (Sr, Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) smoked a double down the left field line to drive in both baserunners, then Lombardi came home when Bill Brady (Fr, Monroeville, PA/Gateway) rolled a sharp single up the middle.  Skeels (3-2) would settle in and work four innings, allowing only 3 hits and striking out 3, to pick up the win.  Ben Sorosky (Jr, Moon Township, PA) retired the final two batters of the game to pick up his first save, while Wolverine starter Michael Herringshaw, who allowed 10 hits and all seven runs in three innings, suffered the loss.
