Alumnus of Distinction Will Speak on Campus

Justin Merriman (Class of 2000) is an award winning photojournalist and the recipient of the 2009 Alumnus of Distinction Award. On Tuesday, March 31, 2009 Justin will host a special program on campus entitled Covering Conflict and War.  He will discuss the photos that he has taken during his assignments in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and talk about the influence that Pitt Greensburg has had on his career. This event will be held in the Campana Chapel & Lecture Center at 7:00 p.m. and is open to the public. Reservations are not required and admission is free.  

Justin is a Greensburg native who has worked as a photojournalist since 1999. He has covered stories across the United States and the world, including the events of September 11th, the Sago mine disaster, the 2004 and 2008 U.S. Presidential elections, polio in India, life in Cuba, the 2008 Parliamentary Elections in Pakistan, and the war in Afghanistan.  Justin will receive the Alumnus of Distinction Award at the graduation ceremony on April 25, 2009.

It’s Time for Your Close Up

Students are always curious about who are alumni are, and what they are doing now…so let’s show them!  This year, as part of Senior Week, the PGAA would like to show the students a video featuring, you guessed it…alumni!   

We are looking for Pitt Greensburg alumni who are willing to talk for a few minutes on camera about their college experience, what they are doing now, and why it is important to stay connected to Pitt Greensburg—a  mini-commercial, so to speak. We will be shooting some of the segments on campus and some may be shot “on location” (at your place of employment).   

On Tuesday, April 21, the students will come to a “Drive-In” movie on campus.  If we have enough interviews completed beforehand, the PGAA would like to show part of the alumni video on the outdoor screen before the “feature presentation” begins.  Sort of like a “preview” of things to come J

Join Us for the 2009 Commencement Festivities

This year marks 45 years for the Pitt-Greensburg campus, so it is the perfect opportunity to feature our alumni at this year’s graduation.   Here are some of the ways that you can be a part of the graduation festivities: 

Friday, April 24, 2008  

Graduation Reception—the PGAA hosts a special reception for all of the graduates to welcome them into the ranks of the alumni association.  ALL alumni are invited to attend this event. The reception will be held on Friday, April 24, from 5:15-6:00 p.m. in the Alumni Pavilion (outside of Millstein Library). 

Parent Appreciation Dinner—following the reception is a special Parent Appreciation Dinner for all of the graduates and their parents. This serves a dual purpose.  For students, it’s an opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments and show their appreciation to their parents.  For alumni, the dinner is a way to personally connect with the newest members of the PGAA.  Meeting the graduates face-to-face and sharing your personal experiences with them, helps show them first hand how important it is to stay connected to their alma mater.  If you are interested in serving as guest host for this event, please contact Nancy Murphy at 724-836-7496 or upgalum@pitt.edu  to sign up. Saturday, April 25, 2008 

Alumni Leaders Meeting—the PGAA Board of Directors will hold an Annual Alumni Leaders Meeting on Saturday, April 25 @ 8:00 a.m. This particular board meeting is open to all alumni.  It is an annual review of what the association has done and its plans for the coming year.  Special guests include the Alumni of Distinction and other PGAA award recipients.   

Graduation Breakfast—Alumni who are participating in the graduation festivities are invited to a special graduation breakfast before the ceremony.  The breakfast will be held on Saturday, April 25, at 9:30 a.m. in Wagner Dining Hall. 

Commencement Ceremony—all alumni are invited to participate in the commencement ceremony.  The ceremony will take place on Sat., April 25, at 11:00 a.m.  As a Pitt-Greensburg alum, you are encouraged to walk in the ceremony with your fellow alumni and sit in the designated alumni section.  This is just one more way that you can show your support and take pride in your accomplishments as Pitt-Greensburg graduate.  Advance reservations are required in order to make the appropriate arrangements (we will provide breakfast, caps & gown, etc). 

Legacy Presentations –Do you have a son/daughter who is graduating from Pitt-Greensburg in April?  As an alum, you can actually be the one to present the diploma at graduation.  The PGAA Legacy Presentation Program was created to give alumni the opportunity to escort a graduate onto the stage, present the diploma, and take a picture together during the ceremony.  It is a wonderful way to mark the occasion. If you have a  child graduating and you would like to participate in the Legacy Presentation Program, please contact the Office of Alumni Affairs as soon as possible at 724-836-7496 or upgalum@pitt.edu.

Would you like to donate to the PGAA,

Weddings at Pitt-Greensburg

If you, or a family member, are planning a wedding, why not consider getting married in the new Mary Lou Campana Chapel and Lecture Center located on the Pitt-Greensburg campus. This beautiful facility was built in memory of Mary Lou Campana and is only available to those people who have a direct affiliation with the University. (Immediate family members include parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters.)
